not our first rodeo

time for our fave tucson holiday - rodeo week!!  on wednesday, both kids had rodeo day activities at their schools.
as "cowboy" as we get...

i spent part of the morning in ella's classroom working on a desert sunset craft.

love her face here!!

in true tradition of avoiding the parade like the plague, we headed to the cotters for trampoline-jumping and lunch playdate.

i asked ella if she wanted to join me on my saturday run on her bike - she woke up at 3 a.m.!!  then, she woke up again at 6:30 a.m. worrying that i had left without her.  aww.  so happy you were excited about this, ella!  i loved running with her next to me on her bike and the girl made it TWO MILES!!  go, ella!  i think this might need to be our saturday morning tradition!  :-)

score! max is four!

it was quite the celebration week for max's fourth birthday!!  quick flashback to max's soccer picture - he looks like such a big boy!!

on thursday, i joined max at preschool and they celebrated his birthday in class.
putting 4 candles on his "cake"

the kids singing happy birthday to him.  he chose juice and blueberry munchkins for his treat.

on friday, we ran errands, and then ella got ready for her girl scouts (daisy) meeting - with her vest!

we hosted a birthday party for max on sunday at mcdonald park.  his only request for his birthday party was that he had blue (jungle juice) eegee's.  it is a flavor of the month, so we had to order a special "cube" of it that feeds 50 people.  thank goodness the stuff freezes well and he has a few additional portions to get him through the next few months!!
the theme of his party was dinosaurs.  when i asked him why dinosaurs, his reply was "dinosaurs are awesome because they roar!!!"  so jenny embroidered his shirt to read: "roar, i'm 4...T-Max."

4 (!!) eegee's later...showing off his blue tongue.

the kids getting lined up for the piƱata...which max still calls a "pina colada."  yup.  that's my kid.

happy birthday, max!!!!  i can't believe you are FOUR!!!!

after we dropped ella off at school, we made a quick run to target, where the check-out lady wished him a happy birthday and gave him a gift card to get a free cake pop from starbucks!!

then, off to the zoo with jack and josie!

these kiddos just love each other and act like they are siblings when they're together.

first up, was the train around reid park.

quick snack stop...

then jenny called a friend who works at the zoo - we had missed the daily giraffe feeding (normally it's $2.00 for 2 carrot sticks to feed the giraffe and you have to move quickly).  we were granted a private giraffe feeding and he gave the kids a BUCKET of carrots.  they spent about 20 minutes running around the platform by themselves feeding the giraffes.  so so so so amazing!!

time for another snack...

if you look closely, there is a completely different snack in his hand now...

...and because about 3 minutes went by without food, we got dippin' dots ice cream.

after a ride on the carousel (max is no fun and wanted to sit on the bench), we went to grimaldi's for pizza!

after picking up els, we went home to make more pizza and have a great birthday dinner with daddy, els, gigi and poppie.

happy happy happy birthday, my sweet max.  you are so sweet, loving, cuddly, funny, smart, mischievous, yet sometimes demonstrate the responsibility level of a 40 year old man.  hope you had a great birthday - we loved celebrating you and seeing how much you've grown this year.  love you so much, buddy!!!!!

be mine. or at least be not so sick

okay.  so that cold got worse.  boo.  tuesday morning, we went to the doctor's office and ella was diagnosed with walking pneumonia.  poor girl.  at least the kiddos finally got sleep!

fever down and starting a round of antibiotics, the doctor okayed ella to return to school on wednesday morning - in time for her book character parade!!  she dressed up as pinkalicious.  thanks, mom, for helping with her costume!!!

thursday, i spent the morning helping out at max's school for his valentine's day party.

he made me and roger a heart-shaped magnet with his thumb print in the middle that said "thumb-body loves me."  so cute.

...and finally on friday, helping out with ella's valentine's day party.

haircuts for max and daddy!!  looking good, boys!  before heading off to max's soccer game - he still wasn't feeling great and it was super hot.  but i'm beyond proud of max for finishing the game even though he didn't feel well.  great job, max!!!

on sunday, i wasn't feeling great, but we had the rite of election and i was officially welcomed to the church by the bishop, himself!
after the rite, with my sponsor, rachel, and bishop kicanas.
