a november shower...

last saturday, we had the kids' final soccer games of the season.  yay!!  woohoo!!!  the bi-weekly practices were tough and i was beyond excited for this season to end.  :-)

team picture!!  so fun to watch roger coaching the kiddos.  ella loved coach adam and he thanked her for being sweet and bringing her "cheetah speed."

max also had his final game of the season.

getting his trophy from coach mike

then we drove up to surprise for rachel and nolan's baby shower!!

ms. lauren was so so good with both kids!!

our new PJ's from auntie elaine and uncle norm!

just love our family.  we had a fabulous time at the shower!

after hanging out for a bit, it was time to head back to tucson

max fell asleep in the car on the way home and didn't wake up so i completely cherished the ability to watch some football and cuddle a sleeping max.  my days doing this are now few and far between - i loved every second of it, buddy!!

go-vember

and i was a delinquent blogger again.  where the heck did all of the time go???  here is the middle part of november:

max apparently played the drums in preschool.  :-)

his class read 'the very busy spider' in soaring and did a couple of cute projects!

max's soccer pic - still waiting on els.  they also did sweet pics with roger since he was the assistant coach on both teams - so cute!

ella FINALLY lost her tooth that was hanging in there for forever.  AND the tooth fairy was on time!

last week, i spent quite a bit of time at both kids' schools.
the zoo came to max's preschool - he was super excited to learn about all of the animals.

petting a lizard

declining petting the snake

ella and her buddy, jake, at science lab

watching their new bearded dragon, norbert, eat a lunch of crickets and kale

picture day!!!

poor els, was skipping through the cafeteria, ran into someone and fell and cut her eye.  she was a tough cookie though!!

a comment on the differences in how my kids take in new information (such as the history of thanksgiving) and then report it back:
Max:
A long time ago, before my teachers, Mrs. Dawson and Mrs. Monier, were born, people came here on a boat that they built.  They came to our country because they wanted to make their own choices. There was nothing here when they got here - no houses or buildings.  Then they had lunch together to be thankful.

Ella:
I wouldn’t want to live in olden times.  They had bread that was so crunchy it could break all of your teeth.  And girls had to do a lot.  Like build fires.  I wouldn’t build a fire.  I would let my dad do it. Remember the girl who got burned by a fire?  All she wanted for Christmas was Christmas cards so we sent her one.  I hope that made her happy.  All I want for Christmas is cheetah stuff.  Because I love cheetahs.  And unicorns.  But mostly cheetahs.  And cats.

halloween et al and 18/40: A mountain half marathon

so after this post, i should be good and caught up.  the rest of october - halloween fun!!! - is here, plus a bit of november.

warning: this is long and super picture-heavy!!

so we made it home safely and i spent our first day on solid ground being sick, doing 18 loads of laundry, watching football and feeling as though the world was still moving on the ship.

back to school and work and our normal day to day routines on monday.

on wednesday, els had an early out for parent teacher conferences, so i treated my beauty out for a very rare girls' lunch at her fave restaurant, zinburger.

it was ella's turn to present at religious ed on wednesday

we barely made it through the rest of the week - unfortunately, ella came down with a cold as well and ended up missing school on friday and fall festival as well, which she was super bummed about.  on saturday, she still wasn't feeling well, so just max and i went to gaslight theatre for their production of 'frankenstein.'

it was an amazing show!!

by sunday morning, els was feeling a little better, so we headed up to the marana pumpkin patch - it's become a tradition every october!  we went to the jumping pillows first.

max's favorite - the ducky races

train ride around the farm

one day my kids will both look at the camera...

now off to get our pumpkins!!

the following wednesday, before halloween, ella's BFF, hailey, was allowed to bring one friend to her dance class for their halloween party.  the girls are so super sweet together!

on thursday, i helped out at max's halloween party at school - so much fun to see him with his friends at preschool!

saturday, we carved pumpkins!  the kids were super excited about getting all of the seeds out so daddy could bake them.  :-)

of course max wanted a jack skellington pumpkin...

we dropped the kids off at my parents house since we had tickets to the u of a football game saturday night.  but i wasn't feeling great and we thought it would make it a much better date to go home to a quiet house and cook together and watch the football game from here:
okay.  we're old.  but it was so nice having time with just the two of us.  and i had a very early morning...

sunday, jenny and i ran the A mountain half marathon - we couldn't not dress up...i mean, it was the day before halloween...but we went pretty low key (for us, anyway), as a devil and angel.
at the "A" on A mountain.  it wasn't too bad - only a mile and a half of uphill but it was super super hot.  so we finished with a time of 2:47:55 and came in 493/612.  ouch.  oh well.  not doing that one again.

we recovered pretty quickly and took the kids to howl-o-ween at the zoo with gigi and poppie!
one of my fave events all year.  especially the green apple magaritas with a pumpkin sugared rim.  :-)

ella was absolutely over the moon to take a pic with a "real" stormtrooper!!

on monday (halloween, finally!!), poppie and gigi took max out for lunch after school, then to speech.  thank you- max had an awesome time with you!!

meanwhile, i helped out for ella's halloween party - loved hanging out with my girl at school!!!

and home to get ready for our halloween party.

ew.  this was a fun idea, but i forgot how gross wine in a box is.  thank goodness gigi burt brought over real wine!!  and then while the kids trick-or-treated for candy, i trick-or-treated for sangria.  yum!

out in our costumes one last time!!

last week, max had picture day at school - looking handsome!

this past weekend, we took the kiddos to the home depot workshop to make a helicopter.
my brave girl, finished assembling her helicopter even though she accidentally hammered her thumb. she said it hurt a ton but she was super excited that the resulting injury was purple - one of her favorite colors.  oh, this is why i love you so much, els.

the most painstaking paint job ever.  way to have a plan and commit, max.  :-)

and with that we start a week anew.  i'm caught up.  can't believe the holidays are approaching - with the chaos and craziness that accompanies this time of year, i want to enjoy it, appreciate this time and my loves.
